Glen has been training in the Martial Arts from a very young age. Over these years he has trained in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Zen Do Kai, Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts and of course, BJJ. In 1999 Glen’s freestyle Karate Academy joined Kiaido Ryu Martial Arts.
This saw the introduction of a structured grappling and ground-fighting syllabus which Glen took to like a duck to water. Having a real passion for the physical elements of Martial Arts Glen continued to dedicate a large portion of his training time to BJJ. This path lead him to Geoff Grant from the Grappling Specialists Wellington (GSW). GSW is one of New Zealand’s most established BJJ clubs who were directly linked to John Will, one of the best BJJ / MMA coaches around.
Early 2001 Glen and his team hosted John Will for their first of many seminars; this seminar was a turning point in not only his martial arts training, but his thought processes behind teaching and delivering material. These seminars ultimately created a dedicated BJJ class. This group soon flourished and developed into what is now known as Submission Martial Arts.
In November 2004 Glen was awarded his Blue Belt in BJJ followed two weeks later by the promotion to 6th degree Black Belt in Karate.
Early 2007 saw Glen move away from the traditional elements of Martial Arts and focus on his core passions of BJJ and Mixed Martial Arts. Leaving Auckland at the end of 2007, Glen established the Porirua academy of Submission Martial Arts early 2008.
Glen currently teaches 3 BJJ classes and one MMA class per week, as well as private lessons.
Outside of teaching BJJ & MMA Glen holds down a fulltime job and is married with two young boys who keep him very busy.
Glen received his purple belt from John B Will in March 2009 at GSW.
